Synopsis
In 1980s Hollywood, adult film star and aspiring actress Maxine Minks finally gets her big break. But when a mysterious killer stalks Hollywood stars, a trail of blood threatens to reveal his dark past. Hollywood star Maxine puts out her cigarette is Theda Bara, the actress Pearl was inspired to name her alligator. The Bette Davis quote that appears at the beginning of the movie is misquoted. It’s actually “until you’re known as a monster in my profession, you’re not a star”.

The stakes didn’t seem high enough
I was probably too excited to see this third part of the X-Trilogy, because I left the theater a little disappointed. Mia Goth takes on the role of Maxine. But the hero deserved a better finale. I’m a fan of Kevin Bacon, but his character wasn’t threatening at all. He was more comedic (in an annoying way) and got way too much screen time.
The kills were ok
The detectives were one dimensional characters… and the finale was anticlimactic. I would have liked to see something with more of a Tarantino feel. The best thing about the movie (aside from Mia) was the use of 80’s music and nostalgia. But I can’t really blame the filmmakers for that.
All the elements were there
Not a bad movie by any means. But the final product just wasn’t as dynamic as it could have been. A24 has created some of the most memorable horror films of the 21st century. See which movies ranked highest on IMDb.
